A Modern Fire Station at the Heart of the Atikamekw Community of Wemotaci
Delivered in early 2024, this project is far more than a simple infrastructure, it is a concrete commitment to the safety of the Atikamekw community of Wemotaci.
Key Project Figures
Total Steel: 5,500 kg (12,000 lb) for connections and bracing (also supplied by Ambiance Bois).
Total Wood: 110 m³ (3,885 cu ft) of timber, including:
550 m² (5,800 sq ft) of decking.
Glued-laminated timber (glulam) components, including beams with a 240 x 1,500 mm (9 ½ » x 60″) section, a 17.50 m (57′) span, and a weight of 3,600 kg (8,000 lb).
The choice of glulam timber for this fire station goes beyond aesthetics. Strong, durable and fire-resistant, glulam timber delivers structural performance comparable to steel, while storing carbon and reducing the building’s environmental footprint.
Ambiance Bois Structures is proud to have contributed to this community project as the designer of the glulam timber structure, in close collaboration with the various project contributors.
